You’re studying software development or data science, and the only thing you’re building is exhaustion.
Every application ends in silence. “German experience required.” “Fluent German preferred.” “Minimum two years in a similar role.” How do you get experience when nobody gives you the first chance? You send one more application, and you hear nothing back again.
On freelance platforms, you’re invisible. You have the skills, but no reviews and no history. Next to profiles with ten years and hundreds of ratings, you don’t stand a chance, no matter how good your work is.

How tiers work
Your tier shows companies what you can really do, based on proof, not on how long your CV is.
How you get your tier. You verify your identity, pass an aptitude test, complete a real project based on a realistic client brief, and explain your work in a 30-minute video interview with an experienced expert. The whole assessment takes one week.

If you don’t pass, you get specific feedback and can try again after two months. Want to move up a tier? You can retake the assessment after two months too. Your tier grows as you grow.
How milestones work
Every project is split into milestones: smaller pieces of work with a clear goal.
The money is there before you start. The company funds each milestone before work on it begins. WURP holds it safely, so you never work wondering whether you’ll get paid.
You get paid milestone by milestone. When you deliver a milestone and the company approves it, the payment for that milestone is released to you. Then you move on to the next one.
If the company wants changes. The company may ask you to redo the milestone using their feedback. If they still aren’t satisfied, they can switch to another student to continue the work. Payment for a milestone is only released once it is approved.
Every approved project counts. Each completed, client-approved project becomes verified proof of your work: the portfolio employers actually trust.
Who can join
You’re enrolled at a German university.
You’re currently studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a university in Germany, and you can prove it with your matriculation number or your enrolment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung).
You have the right to study and work in Germany.
EU, EEA or Swiss citizens don’t need a visa. Non-EU students need a valid residence permit for study purposes.
You study software development or data science.

You work within the legal limits for students in Germany.
These rules protect your student status and your visa. WURP plans your project hours around them.
During the lecture period (term time)
- Maximum 20 hours per week.
- This counts across all your jobs together, not just WURP. If you already work 10 hours somewhere else, you have 10 hours left for WURP.
During the semester break
- Up to 40 hours per week.
- But you can work more than 20 hours a week for a maximum of 26 weeks per year in total. Go beyond that and you lose your working student status.
